Oil consumption 454mag?

It seems I read somewhere that certian 454's like oil?
I never noticed any significant oil loss before last weekend. I ran the boat pretty hard all day Saturday (5000-5200rpm). Sunday morning it was about 2 quarts low?
Is this normal?

I use a quart every 10-15 hours in my 454 Mag. It seems to be directly proportionate to rpm's. If I am just cruising 3-3500 it hardly uses any oil. If I am hammering it, I use more oil.
