XR DWP vs LWP
i need to make a decision and i need your help! :) i have a 29 kryptonite and i have an XR dual water pickup. i broke the gears set which broke the case for the lower. through my supplier i can only get a low water pickup lower. will the LWP lower hurt speed compared to the DWP? id like to not have that happen!

I doubt if it will change the speed but a LWP is something you do not want unless you need it. They have a tendency to pick up a lot of junk if you run in shallow water at all. The only reason you need one is if the drive is mounted so high that you have water pressure or aeration problems with the DWP.

Not shure between a DWP and a LWP, but I do know that the side water pickups are
faster than the low water pickups once over 80 mph. When I did the switch on my old boat, I picked up 1.4 mph. on back to back testing. |

The Imco is a low water pick up. Mine vaccums the bottom and I wish I had a DWP . I always have trouble in shallow water.

I installed the new bravo xr lower.. new out of the box. Is this thing supposed have probshaft play? It has in and out and when in.. it then has up and down. Doesnt seem right

Prop shaft should not have endplay/sideplay at all.
The verticle drive shaft will have play until it is assembled. |
IMO having run both DWP is the way to go, like mentioned above LWP sucks some much junk I had to clean out my strainer constantly. With the split suction the you will have higher pressure so a relief valve is a real good idea, I do not like the Merc units 30psi setting. 30psi puts to much pressure on head gaskets on raw cooled engines, rarely do the develop cylinder leaks but weep on the outer edges both outside and the lifter valley.
