ProCharged 502 Checkmate Prop

Hey guys,
I have a '94 253 Convincor with an M-3 procharger on it pushing around 700hp. Right now I'm running a 30p Bravo I 4 blade. I'm getting ready to drop the power down to about 650 so I can keep my outdrive under warranty. How much does anyone think the 50 less HP will affect my performance and am I gonna need a new prop?

Thanks

I have a 253 with a procharged 500HP I spin a bravo 1 28p about 5600

you will loose maybe 3 to 4 mph but the real issue will be the drive,650 hp will kill a bravo almost as fast as 700 hp will.

Yep it'll kill it ... eventually. But, I've been running 696 hp (557 NA) with a bravo drive for 4 seasons. 500 hp (ZZ502) 5 seasons before that. Both propped for +,- 5600 RPMs. Trick is (as far as I'm concerned) is no hole shots, careful re-entry during/after air, and OD fluid change every 25-30 or so hours. In a nut shell, don't beat the he!! out of it, and good maintenance. Beat on it to much, and it's bound to break.

Makes a lot of sense!!!

Unfortunately I've already found this out. I bought it last season with a stock Bravo I, never beat on it hard but it was already on it's way out. I just got it back from being rebuilt by All American Drive Services in MI and it's rated for 800hp now. The whole reason I'm lowering power is because they warranty the outdrive for 2 years if it's at or below 650hp.

What did they do to make it handle 800hp? This is a standard bravo 1?

They completely rebuilt it from the inside out. Thicker bearings, thicker/stronger shafts with 25% twist rates, stainless steel tower, stronger u-joint, treat and polish everything, etc...
Go on their website, they do some pretty cool stuff. Spend way less than I would on a BMax for sure. George is the owner and is one of the best guys I've ever dealt with.

Not trying to come off like a jerk as I know George does good work. But, how does the warranty work? I mean, they rate the drive for 800hp and warranty it up to 650hp. Many people only have "guesstimates" to the actual power they are making.

To your original question, I would say you will end up with a 28 Bravo.

Your guess is as good as mine. I figure at 150hp less than what he rates them at people can beat on them pretty hard without having to call him to fix it once a season. He's judging my power by the engine x the boost lbs I'm running. ProCharger even told me that a fresh 502efi w/ 7lbs will be right at or above 700hp. Therefore I need a new pulley to get down to about 5lbs which they say I will then be at 645hp. After dumping a bunch of money into it I'd like it to be covered for a little while.

How much speed do you think I'd loose with a 28P?
