Running hot vs cold plug under boost?

I'm just curious to the benefits of a hotter or colder plug, what and why the differences?

I run a EFI 500 with 6 psi vortech, and a YR5 NGK plug because that's what it was tuned with. I've been told that's too hot of a plug, just wondering the benefits of a colder plug. I'm assuming I would need to get the wide band back on there to run different temp plugs?

Thanks in advance.

A cold plug will get the heat out of the cylinder faster to help combat detonation.

NGK ''5" heat range is a bit hot for a blower engine imo. Comparable to a delco R43.

I been running these with good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Vortech recommended these. champion rv8c.

Can you change heat range without getting involved with wide band and tuning and all that?

You should not have retune unless it was set up really rich and fouls the cooler plugs.

I would think whoever tuned the motor would have realized that the ECM was pulling timing out of the motor because it was detonating. 500 efi has knock sensors that work very well. 6 psi isn't alot of boost for a centrifugal which doesn't make alot of heat like a roots. Do you have an intercooler?

I do have an intercooler, the vortechs all come with them as part of the system. Intake temps are in the 80's all the way across the board. I'm told that is fairly cool-

I would try going one step cooler on the plug and see how it runs. Try some mid rpm runs and pull a plug or 2 and see what they look like then some wide open and see what they look like. I prefer Ngk they are much easier to read in my opinion. If they aren't all black along with the tailpipes. I would run with it. That thing should run a long time with 6 lbs as long as you do your regular maintenance...
