Default Strainers Leak - How to fix? (how to seal)

Whats the procedure for tightening CP Performance strainers? Should I be siliconing one side and greasing the other?

This is what I have:
http://www.cpperformance.com/p-12831...tsoutlets.aspx

When I got them they leaked, I tightened and one lid cracked. They graciously sent me new lids. I tightened till they were snug and got them to work. I finally got some algae in the stbd strainer and cleaned both out (some small shells and algae) NOW! the port has a very tiny leak and stbd leaks bad... The lids are plastic. I have a strainer wrench and I am afraid to bear down. This is the first time I have cleaned them (first time I had to clean them) now I cant get them to seal. (I am about to 5200 these bastards on)

What do I do?

I run the CMI strainer that is close to that one,; put grease around O-ring seal in cover , it will seal then

I have those as well. I bought new o-rings and greased them, they don't leak anymore.
