I would run a H/P HEI before using one of these, can get a decent one, complete w/coil cap etc, then get a vac advance block off and the 2 connectors and all for about $100 used many of them and work great...

No, your 2 plug coil/distributor ignition system tells the ecu when to fire your efi and the ecu determines the timing curve, cannot simply drop in a "old" style msd distributor in your case, Smitty

I hate the HEI look... and the marine ones I see are around 200.00 I am looking into a few things...don't want to see the vac advance diaphragm either...

These are what I ran on my stock 420's in my old Excalibur. I do believe the advance curve is fully tailorable to different needs. Stock they come with 24* of mechanical advance. The curve and total advance may be modified though.

Do you still need ignition box? Or are these self contained?

Replace your OE distributor with one of these modern, high performance marine magnetic breakerless distributors from Mallory. Their complete, self-contained ignition system combines the triggering device and amplifier into a single unit that sits inside the distributor housing. The self-contained module/pickup assembly has no moving parts to wear out, making them superior to many other designs. Their time-tested breakerless ignition circuit and surface-mounted, Thermal-Clad construction provide reliability in harsh marine environments. Designed for 12 V negative-ground systems, they improve combustion efficiency and spark plug life, provide accurate timing, and have a simple wiring hookup for easy installation. They're designed to work with both OE and aftermarket coils, so you're sure to find the combination you need.

I have heard that you can run a msd pro billet dist without the ignition box and just use a gm hei module in place of the box. Does anybody have info. on this?
