buttons for the out drive trim
When i first took the boat off the trailer. The switches both the throttle button and trailer/trim button where acting up. After running it for a while the butons seemed to work well. once in a while it would act up but most of the time it worked quit well. Question, is there something lose ( wiring) or is the cellunoid going or the switch going, or is it a fulk. It seemed when i first put it in the what it acted up.

I had a similar problem where the trim buttons where dirty/corroded on the inside. I sprayed electrical cleaner into the buttons and worked the hell out if them. Then I sprayed WD-40 in them and worked them some more. Helped a lot.

Thanks, I will try that. I hope that is the problem. They worked fine most of the day. Just at then begining and once in a while.

I wouldn't mess with 'cleaning' switches, just replace them. There cheap, and its an easy job. Then take some sandpaper, pull the wires off the pump and clean up all the terminals.

Except if you don't know that the switches are the problem. Chasing an intermittent electrical problem is a pain and throwing parts at it is frustrating. If the cleaning and oiling of the switches works then it gets him back on the water and he can order new switches to install at a later date. Since it is both sets of switches I was leaning towards the solenoid being the issue but since the OP said working the switches helped I figured it can't hurt to give this a try first.

I would agree but its less then 40 bucks to replace the switches and if your already going under the dash to clean the switches and contacts its just as easy to replace them.

Unfortunately I am a boating on a budget guy - as much as I would like to replace everything with new I just don't have the resources to do it (2nd wife, 6 kids, house, etc., etc.). If you have the coin for that purpose then by all means!!!! The only exception is safety gear and items that are likely to leave you stranded on the water . . .

this is what I used...$14 http://www.ebay.com/itm/330923909696...84.m1439.l2649 and Im a serious budget boater too...

Good price on those switches. I need to replace some of mine but they are white. May have to contact them to see if they have white.

More than likely, one of your trim senders on the drive is sticking.
