Water in outdrive oil
 

Had to pull one drive to remove engine. I replaced 2 small O ring seals for shift cable and drive oil reservoir, and one larger almost d shaped seal before putting drive back on. Now oil level appears to be going down slightly and looks like its getting water in it. Any help ? Does it ever end ?

When I drained my outdrive oil this season and found water in it I posted asking where it could have came from and was told probably the prop shaft seal replaced it and problem cured, my outdrives are TRS but yours may have the same problems,hopefully someone else may answer this question that has more experience with the Bravo's, good luck, Fred

What kind of a boat do you have and were you on Lake George last weekend? I saw a boat named Bo Knows and there can't be too many of them around.:cool:
BTW, what do you mean "seems to have water"? I have experienced the level drop thing from trapped air after service. Actually finding water in the oil is another matter entirely.

I would pull that drive back off to check the O-rings to make sure one didnt drop when you put back on.If ok I would presure or Vaccum check.

I have a red 28' Checkmate and I was on Lake George last weekend. Where did you see me ? The oil in the one reservoir keeps dropping and it's lighter in color than the other one so I think it might be mixing with water.

I pulled the outdrives twice so far to check & replace the seals and even used a little silicone to help keep them in place. I'm going to change the fluid in both drives again & keep a close watch on them.

Damn, it sucks to get old. Took me awhile but I just remembered. I saw your boat on Black Mt. point on Sunday. We pulled in for a short time around 11 and left because the weather was not so great. We moved to Speaker Heck island so as to be closer to the launch (we put in at Dunham's Bay) in case of a wash out. I have a 24 Progression, white with blue panels. Next time I'll stop to say hello.

Pressurize the drive with about 10psi of compressed air. I made an air compressor to drive adapter that screws into my upper vent plug using an old outdrive lube pump. After pressurizing, take a spray bottle with soapy water and hit all seals and joints on the drive. If you have a leak you will find it easily this way. It doesn't sound like an input shaft seal leak because of the water infiltration. Pressurizing won't detect that leak.

Also check the fitting that goes through the transom housing where the oil house attaches to it on the outside of the boat. You might have to trim out and get the hose to pull on the barb to notice it, even with some pressure on it. I hope it's something easier to fix than this!
