Ignition Module
Here are the specs on the motor I built over the winter it is in a formula 223 with a rev 4 21 pitch prop. The boat runs great but I am lacking a little amount of bottom end power until it gets to around 3000 rpms I think the problem is the ignition module I have a 24 in it now would a v6 module help out? I set the timing to 34 @ 3500.
9.8:1 cr Merlin oval port heads hyd roller cam 114lc 604 lift performer rpm manifold c&s 900 carb Gill manifolds Stock thunderbolt ignition. The boat runs 68 gps @ 5400 |
the v6 module or the v8hp will help, the v6 module gives you about 14deg advance but comes on real quick more like a switch, the v8hp gives you about 20deg advance it gives you full advance around 3500

+1 on the Merc V6 ignition module. With a BBC set up similar to yours we ran the V6 module for 15 yrs with no issues and good results.

Thanks I will start looking for one. What total timing should I run and what rpm should I set it at
|
The V6 module gives about 10* advance on a V8 engine and it will be at full advance by 2000rpms.
Set your timing where you want it for full advance and let the rest fall where it may. It is probably the bigger cam not making power down low that is causing your lack of low end torque. |
Iron or aluminum heads? Always have 93 oct available? The module sets the rpm for full advance. Nothing you can do. Set the base 10* less than what you want and then slowly raise rpm watching with a light
