350 mag carb version roller or not ?

Little help needed here. Looking at a 1994 mcm 350 mag carb engine serial # OF126045. Was wondering if this is a roller cam version or not without pulling apart. Been on mercruiserparts.com but can't figure out which one it is, did a little searching too ... Any help is appreciated!

That's a late model motor and should be a hydraulic roller cam. Internals will likely be cast however (crank, rods and perhaps hypereutectic pistons).

its a non vortec so i doubt it will have a roller cam..all you need to do is pull a valve cover and look through one of the holes in the head..if you see the dogbones around the lifters then its a roller but i dont think they were those years..

I agree...1994 was too early for roller or Vortec in a stock Mercruiser. Look for 1998 or later if that's what you're after.

Thanks guys, trying to order an engine for a customers boat should have been easy with the serial # I would have thought. We will get the non roller 95 and earlier version. Thanks again

There was a thread in this section or the do it yourself section from a guy with a '94 Crownline and this topic came up and it turned out what most people thought would be a flat-tappet cam motor had a roller in it from Merc.

Edit - Post #25. '93 350 MAG with a factory roller cam.

I can get to the engine tonight I think I might investigate a little further myself and verify what the internals are. Thanks for your help guys!

Vortec heads aren't the deciding factor on whether or not a 350 has a roller cam. From what I have seen, most post 1990 350s have a roller cam.

The production year 1987 was the beginning of the transition from flat tappet to roller cams. The changeover coincided with the introduction of the one piece rear seal block designed to eliminate the use of flat tappets. By 1988 the NOS with dealers was mostly installed and the production side was virtually exclusive to roller.

Wrong. Vortec heads have nothing to do with the roller availability. 1996 was the first year for Merc Vortec heads. I have a 1995 Mag EFI motor and it was a roller cam and cast internals. As stated roller motors were very prevalent with the late model 1 piece rear main seal.
