leaking water in bilge
 

im getting water in on the upper part of drive where steering arm is. its a small leak but a leak is a leak. ive checked boots all 3 seem good. i think its coming in around trim harness where it comes threw housing around steer any input would be really
appreciated. bravo 1 :confused:

I have exactly the same problem on my Bravo 1. The leak is coming from a poor/bad seal at the upper steering shaft where it goes through the housing and connects to the gimbal ring. In order to repair it correctly the motor needs to come out and the entire transom assembly removed off boat.

There are other ways I've heard to fix it but they involve drilling holes in upper housing and then tapping holes and putting in plugs to cover holes. Not what I would do to my boat!!

I just bought a new/takeoff transom assy. on ebay for $1800. Most places want between $2600 & $3200 for a new one. The reason mine is bad is from alot of hours and hard high speed running. My gimbal is also worn out and that is why I am replacing whole assy.

In the meantine I have installed a secondary bilge pump all the way at the bottom and I just flip it on every couple of hours to get rid of the water and I will then pull my motor out this fall.

Both of my drives leak also and I intend to pull them this fall and replace the seal in both

And while the motors are out do a LITTLE MORE TINKERING.

There was a Thread about this not long ago. There it was a leaking Speedo Hose. I think the plug is above the steering arm. maybe it leaks there.

the weird thing about the leak is it only leaks when the water is above the drive, coming off plane, or when sitting on rear deck
it started when the speedo came of and i pulled on speedo hose
and trim wires trying to find where it hooked up on top of drive
it seeps down up by the steer arm on the left sde of drive facing to the rear of boat. thought of seal by steerarm but hoping for something easier.

That leak is telling you to Raise your X-dimension :D:D

There is a small seal that goes around your steering shaft that is probably leaking. Good luck
