Electric fuel pump or Mechanical?

I have a gen 6 502 and am going on my second holley electric pump. Any recommendations on if i should get the sea water/ fuel pump set up or go with an electric pump? If electric what king of pump and also what filter should i run before the pump?

Stay away from Holley electric pumps. I have not had any good luck with them.
I use Mallory 140's with their regulators. You need to mount them low in the bilge.
If you have a Gen6 don't you have the fuel pump boss on the side of the engine?

I am not a big fan of Holly electric pumps. I had one that I bought new. It seized up (you could smell that it burned up) in the beginning of the 3rd season of use. Fortunately, a we got ahold of a friend that was coming up to our camping trip that night and he brought a Mallory Comp 140 pump up that he had. He saved my weekend. The only problem I found with the mallory is because of the gyrotor design any debries that was in the tank would get in the pump and lock it up. I took it apart, cleaned it and installed a filter before the pump.....didn't have another issue with it! I'm running a Areomotive marine 1000 pump now with an Areomotive filter before the pump on my new motor. I personally like electric pumps and its also nice to not have to deal with primmimg after the boat comes out of storage at the beginning of each season. Hope this info might help. Mark

The Mallory 140 and Regulator combo is a good electric pump setup. They work good.

and what kind of filter should i run? My motor does not have a boss for the pump. One more thing.. anyone have any idea what pressure to regulate the fuel to? Holley carb?

MILD THUNDER 09-29-2013 07:05 PM

I run the wix 51060R filters. 7psi at carb

Mallory makes a good pump. Imo, not only are they far more durable than the Holley pumps but it's also much quieter! I to would suggest the Mallory Comp 140 (Summit part number for the universal pump and regulator kit is MAA-4140) $275.97 If you insist on installing the marine version of this pump and regulator here's the info: (MAA-9-34140) $517.69

The pump my buddy loaned me was the Mallory Comp 140 alcohol pump. I ran it all season on gasoline with no issues. I was told the difference between the universal and alcohol pump is that the alcohol pump uses a billet base for corrosion purposes. Not sure what the differences are for the marine pump.

To answer your question about setting the regulator.......I suggest that you set it at 7psi at idle with a Holley carb and go play! Good luck, Mark

Hey mark that link I posted up shows the 140 marine pump to include regulator for 275 bucks?

mustangmark 09-29-2013 10:16 PM

Hey Mild Thunder, that's strange.......I pulled those part numbers and prices right from the summit web page. Where did I go wrong?

riverrunner242 09-30-2013 12:49 PM

hour running that after the pump right? Do you run any filter before the pump?
