A buddy gave me this new alt, he worked at a boat shop, never seen one like it, wonder if the voltage reg is ajustible in volts? have youall seen one or know what it would be for?

Yes, it is a marine alternator. The yellow tag should be the UL sticker. They are good units. It just needs a ground and power wire to work. The regulator is adjustable too.

I've run a lot of them, including my current engine. 105 amp with adjustable regulator. They are sold as a marine unit
