502 exhaust flappers

Long story short, I lost an impeller and didn't notice it until the high temp alarm went off. After I raised the hatch I smelled burning rubber and the exhaust was HOT, duh, so I'm thinking I torched the internal flappers.

The engine is a '96 502mag with captain's call. Which flappers do I need? It has external ones on the exhaust tips outside the hull, but I'm thinking it has internal ones as well.

Thanks, Cole

Cole, you probably have them in both places. The flappers for the thru-transom exhaust tips should be visible if you shine a flashlight down the tip from the outside. There is a second set of flappers inside the Y-pipe just below the boots that are attached to the bottom of the diverters for the Captain's Call. You will have to remove the riser and the diverter to get to these. I would advise replacing your riser gaskets while you are at it. Probably a good idea to check all of the rubber hoses for the exhaust at this time and replace as needed.

Put them on the Swap Shop section - you might be able to sell them for enough to pay for new tips and exhaust hoses. Keep in mind that you will have to pull drives and raise the engine up out of the way to remove the Y-pipes. You will have to find the correct block off plate for the exhaust passage in the transom assembly. Probably easier to just leave the diverters and take the butterfly off of them so they will act like the Corsa Quick N Quiet setup. That way you will have it flowing out the transom as well as out the prop.

I meant the risers, I need to inspect for blockage. No intent to remove the Y-pipe.
