BobL - As most of the performance intakes for the 6.2s appear to be aluminum it would seem that fresh-water cooling would be a good idea. If one were to use a complete closed system would aluminum intake, and maybe even heads, and exhaust manifolds be an option even in a salt water environment? It seems like these aluminum parts would more than offset the additional weight of the heat exchanger. Just curious if you have had experience in this arena?

I think the major cause of fuel system problems on a marine engine is moisture. It causes corrosion all through the fuel system that ultimately clogs up the injectors. Whatever you can do to minimize that will help save the injectors. Lots of theories out there on how to do that. I like to totally drain the fuel system then run a highly concentrated cocktail of gas, stabilizer and oil to store it. I've been thinking about using avgas to make up the cocktail.

Hey Wes, Hows it going Bob ,,,, Wes, what kind of performance are you wanting ? Bob tuned and dyno my engines this past summer, made 400hp@5600- 430tq@4200 ,,,,, I don't regret anything so far EXCEPT COMPLETELY DRAINING OLD FUEL, there was about 30gal of 91oct in the tank when i finished the engines. On first time out i top tank off "70gal more" less than 3hrs run time, most of which were idle, starts knocking ,,, found piston trying to stick, lots of questions, many conversations, zero in on detonation from poor fuel,,, lucky i heard the knock while flushing engine on driveway,,,,, pulled it, fixed it, happy with results,,, any questions, be glad to answer ,,, BTW i plan to see Bob again, Happy but not Satisfied, still digging for speed ,,,,,,, Can't help it

Sea foam is not good at cleaning fuel injectors. Contains ZERO PEA. I'm not surprised you noticed nothing. I've studied these chemicals and have seen the results. Head over to bobistheoilguy to read up on the fuel injector cleaners that deliver what they promise. Need to get past the hype and check out the science. Companies don't like PEA because it's expensive. There is no other more effective cleaner for said use. Everything else is just solvent.
Companies that use PEA are : Redline oil, Amsoil, Regane(their top tier product). Chevron techron(expensive concentrated formula). PEA also cleans valves and combustion chambers very well as it is a high temperature detergent. Either way, Techron was a neat site with their info commercials. I have two bottles I was going to run through my 496 burb, except I never did as I really need 4 bottles for the gas tank! The 20 oz bottle is $7 del on Amazon Prime. I think I got the two 12 oz at Autozone when they had a 2 for 1 sale promo, other wise it was $8 for a 12 oz bottle. Now that I posted in this thread and asked a question about the PEA, the thread can be closed. Seems once I post, a thread goes dead. Gives a guy a complex! Brian |
