377 cu in Scorpion Specs?

I have a pdf from Mercury on the remanufactured 383 Scorpion rated at 400 h.p.
Does anyone out there know the specs on the 377 cu in. Scorpion which, I
believe, was considered a "Blue Motor?" I would love to know how the
components differ from the 320 h.p. 377 6.2 MPI and what horsepower the
377 Scorpion was rated.

mptrimshop 11-05-2013 09:39 PM

4.00 bore 3.75 stroke

Will post more later when I get to my computer at home

It is rated at 377 hp. It's also a 6.2 L with a compression ratio of 9:1. The camshaft is 222/230 .510/.530 114.

It's got a lot better intake than the 6.2 also.

Trash 11-05-2013 10:34 PM

The intake lower half is a tunnel ram style with port injectors. Throttle body was moved to the right rear (as you face the front of the motor). It was based on the pre vortec 1995 Mag EFI/MP manifold except that induction system had the front mounted two stage throttle body.

So the 377 Scorpion was rated at 377HP? I always thought it was rated at 350HP. Learned something new today! :coolcowboy:

Harlequin 11-06-2013 04:33 PM

My 383 is rated at 350 hp. It is called Stroker by Merc.

How quickly a thread changes from cubic inches and horsepower to T & A. The girl above kinda reminds me of my introduction to Judo. Her name was Karen and she summersaulted me across the mat like a flat rock! Later found out her nickname was "Killer Karen." NEVER underestimate a pretty face...
Now, can we get back to the specs on the Scoprion 377? What heads and who made the intake? Throttle body size? Are any of these components still available?

Not sure on the heads.

Merc made the intake which to the best of my knowledge was developed along with Lingenfelter back in 1994-95 for the original Mag EFI/MP series motors, both big and small block. Intake is a two piece design. Lower have is the tunnel ram type runners and top half is the plenum cap.

I don't know the throttle body size, but believe its a mono blade.

The components all say NLA (no longer available) on the parts list and even if they were they were EXPENSIVE.

So Did you take Karen home, rip the sheets off the waterbed, break out a bottle of baby oil and say "the winner gets to be on top'?

I tried to find a set of these engines before I got rid of my 292. There are not many out there.

They could be duplicated, just would be cheaper to build 383''s to same HP.

I was just curious about the Scorpion specs. I only have 208 hours on my stock 6.2 MPIs. All the pros have weighed in stating that there is no easy horsepower to be gained on the "regular" 6.2s. I guess it was a lot easier back in the carburetor days when I just switched to an iron Z-28 hi-rise, rejetted the Quadrajet, and picked up several m.p.h.

I hear ya Wes.... I would like to find another 50-60 HP a side. The more I look I realize that it would not be worth he $$. Next step is freshen up the top end and wipples.... But that's a big step

Wes Burmark 11-09-2013 05:48 PM

mptrimshop - It does not seem like there are any upgrades that pencil out. Heads, cam, intake, throttle body, headers, and computer tune times two... plus new props for maybe 10 m.p.h.? Whipples would probably require forged pistons and stronger rods at a minimum, and headers. What goes in must come out. And Whipple recommends some good sized oil coolers so add another grand to that upgrade. I would also venture the Whipples might put the Brovo 1s near the edge. A lot of money to put into a 29' that would still probably not be any faster than a 35' Fountain with stock 496s. Maybe someone out there knows some affordable magic!
