Msd 8728 Rev Control Wiring
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the MSD 8728 rev control?
Cannot find it on MSD's site. Red? Green? Purple? Black? White? Thanks for any help |
RED-to switched 12v source. I used the coil positive.
BLACK-ground GREEN-to coil negative WHITE-to coil negative VIOLET-not used. I recommend looping this back on it's self and sliding a piece of shrink tube over both wires. Makes for a very clean termination. |
Cord,
Are you saying that the green & white go directly on the (-)coil post and the red goes on the (+)coil post along w/ the wires that come from the distributor? I guess I was thinking the wires from the distributor would go through the rev limiter on their way to the coil. Thanks for the reply, would like to get this thing on tommorrow morning. |
Bill, that sounds like the way mine was hooked up. Nothing went to the distributor, only the coil. That I'm sure of.
|
I would think that you have to remove the wire from the negative terminal of the coil and splice it to one of the wires from the MSD and then one of the wires goes to the negative post to give it signal.
|
I spliced nothing. And it worked. This I know!!!!
|
Did you have to mount a little black thing ( terminal block ) to the negative post and then install one wire to each screw?
|
MSD shows the wires being spliced, but I just connected them to the coil posts and it work fine.
Tinker-I'm not sure what "little black thing" you are refering to. Can't think of it at all... BGIII-If you are refering to the merc wires, they go to the distributor. The post is labled as to what wire goes where. The msd green and white wires do go to the coil negative. |

There are a few different ways to wire an 8728 Box, I've got one of MSD's books, what ignition system are you running ? Doug |
I am running theese same MSD limiters on a TB4 ignition, I know they are wired right. No mater what RPM chip I use I can only get 4500 RPMs out of either engine, if I do not have a chip in I get my usual 5200Rs @WOT:confused: Does any one have any suggestions on this?
