Fuel Cap Chain
 

So my boat has Fuel, Water, and Waste. all the chains are good but the fuel one.... the most important one.

any ideas how to replace the chain WITH OUT pulling the cap out of the boat/unhooking the fuel hose and fixing?

I have the same issue -- come on folks need some responses.

It will depend on where the chain came apart or unhooked. If its way inside the filler neck, then probably the only way is to remove the entire fill neck. I would not want to chance dropping chain or pieces into the tank.

You have a chain on your waste?

Depends on how yours is attached. Some are screwed to the inside wall of the neck, requiring removal (or at least the fill hose), and then some are screwed to a nub that sticks out and can be unscrewed from outside, very carefully

Where is it broke? Might try jamming a rag down the hole before you work on it, but tie a strong piece of twine around the corner of the rag that you stuff in last so you can retrieve it easily.

I have the same problem .... I'm going to buy a spare cap.... Cuz it's gonna happen.... At the worst time....... Unless I but a spare ..... Then it will never happen.

Couple more tips:
Don't use a cordless impact driver.
Don't light a cigarette.
Use a brass screw driver if you are clumsy. :D

The chain is broke at where it connects to the fill cap way inside... (other wise I would figure out a way to reatach it to the cap...)

I know the proper way to fix it is to take it out of boat, but its sealed all nice and clean tot he gell, let alone the work on the inside to get to those hose clamps. BUT i was told someone made a metal ring that's is sprung and it will slid in the fill neck, and then its springs out and holds itself in a spot in the neck, allowing you to reatch the chain first then install the ring/clip. But I have yet to find this little contraption.....

And yes my wase has a chain on it, and makes it where I have to use the nossel that you HOLD against the boat for dear life so you dont get sprayed.... I haev almost removed the chain many times on that one so i can use the other latching one but then think sure enough i will do that and then drop the dam thing...

90% of the time I bu fuel on the trayler so its not going to fall in the water, but I am so parnoid when i do i never let anyone take it off ha.

I do the something..... I tell people.... If/when this thing gets dropped in the water.... I'm going to be the one to do it, so I'm not mad at anyone buy myself.

Is the chain also used to help reduce the chances of a static electricity charge from building up between the cap and the fuel inlet? I was under the impression that it acts like a ground strap to prevent this. Of course you also have to be careful with the pump nozzle.
