I like the idea of removing weight...with twin sbc, your laser must be a bit heavy in the rear end...kill two birds with one stone by installing good alum. heads, and light efficient exhaust, along with a cam change. Is the intake alum. or iron ?

the bost sits surpisingly well for having to small blocks in the back. i love this boat for what i do and for some reason it burn no fuel at all even wheni run the piss out of it.. i feel that this boat burn way less than my 24 did with a 496 stroker bbc with 500 hp. that thing sucked the fuel. im just going to buy a vortec head package and call it good for now. i might even leave it alone for one more yr and either size up a boat again or put som biger power 383 in it . who knows. im just trying torun some ideas threw my brain.

If it runs that good and is easy on fuel I would be hard pressed to do anything to it. IMO twin small blocks is a great way to go. Would consider a twin engine boat with small blocks in it for that reason.

FWIW, I have a Mirage257 with twins that would be similar to your PQ in weight. Engines are 6.2's [ 377 cu ] , 320 propshaft HP [ 350 HP @ the crank ] spinning B! 26 P props at 5000 rpm.Drive ratio is 1.65 that helps spinning the 26P props! Best speed to date is 76mph GPS with only me on board half fuel [ 40gal in the tank ]. Boat is ass heavy with the twins so it needs the 280 tabs to get it on plane quick. Boat cruises 40 mph @3000 rpm burning 7-8 gal/hr per engine according to the SmartCraft gauges. It spikes to 20-22 gal/hr @WOT. I'm pretty happy with the performance so far. Getting rid of the cast iron exh manifolds one day to help with CG. The boat has 24* deadrise so it digs deep like the PQ . I would choose a 383 stroker for your application.

Sits a bit low at the back but looks like ready to take off,heh

I toke my 1991 PQ 208 with 350 mag & put vortec head modified for more lift & put 1.6 crane gold roller rockers on them to amplify the existing cam & Edlebrock RPM Airgap intake and got 6mph! Used stock carb. It worked great!
