Starter Circuit testing - No action!
 

G'day all,
I pulled the motor for a rebuild and now I've put it back in and reconnected everything, it all works EXCEPT the starter (which is kind of important!)

I have 12V everywhere (slave solenoid, starter, Alt, Ign 12V Protected) but when I turn the key to start, nothing. No click, not a thing. Can't even hear the solenoid click.

My arms aren't long enough to reach the key and the voltmeter on the yel/red start switch wire simultaneously to see if that's activating.

I've replaced the slave solenoid too but no change. Still nothing.
Starter is a CVR ProTorque.
Can anyone assist with some tests etc?

May sound real silly but did you check the neutral safety switch? Or maybe even bypass it just to rule it out... If you have 12v everywhere you should atleast get some kinda action.

I try the simple things first.

I would use a remote starter switch, it will bypass everything else in the circuit and let you know if it's the starter or something in the circuit. You can get them at any auto parts store for 10 bucks.

Sounds like you hooked the starter up wrong. Use a screwdriver and jump across the solenoid if it kicks then switch the wire from one small post to the other.

+1^^ Check for 12V at the slave solenoid on the Red/Purple wire on top the slave solenoid. If 12V is there jump across the top contacts and the starter solenoid should engage

I know it hard by yourself, but you need to check for voltage at the yellow with red tracer wire at the slave solenoid, a test light will work. Also, did you ground the slave solenoid properly?

The yellow/red wire will only have 12V on it when the key is turned to start, the red/purple will have 12V on it all the time.

Had the same problem a few years ago...make sure ground is gd to the selionid that was my problem

yep,,make sure thr wire on the starter is on the ''S''

All sorted, mickeymcclgn was right, neutral safety switch fried somehow. Bypassed that and all fixed!
Good thing is I rewired 90% of the connectors and terminal ends I didn't like the look of while searching for the fault.
