Plumbing for flushing engine

My boat is kept on a lift and I can't get to the drives easily to put the mouse ears on for flushing. I want to put a tee in the water line between the drive and the raw water pump, with a hose connecton for flushing. I'm trying to do this without putting a valve in the line to block off water from the drive. The raw water pump shud pull the water thru shouldn't it? Any problems with any air being picked up with the water? The engines still have the circulating pumps...does this matter? Thanks

That is kind of how mine are, but I have the hose fitting plumbed into sea strainers. It works good because excess water flows back out the drive (flushing it too) and when revved up it pulls all it through the engine.
