leaking bravo

What is under the top cap of a bravo 1. My port drive started leaking from the top cap last weekend. what would cause this? is it a gasket or is it o-ringed? If oil is comming out does that mean water is going in?

Top cap has a large o-ring under it. If oil is coming out there is a chance water could be going in!

There is also an O ring/bushing for the shift shaft under the cap , could be either. Typically the drive gets hot oil expands a little comes out, when drive cools oil contracts and a little water goes in, so it should be attended ASAP

If I pull the cap to change the o-rings will my oil bottle drain all over the place. Or should I drain the drive before I pull the cap?

Thanks
Russ
P.S. It leaks all the time when on the trailer it will leave a couple of teaspoons on the ground over the week.

I would pull the bottom drain plug and let a little out into a cup to see if there is any water in the drive. Let the rive sit overnight and water will go to the bottom, check to see if milky etc. If it is you need to drain the drive and change the oil as well anyways . I would probably change it just to be safe .

The bottle will drain but slowly so depends how fast you are :D
