Yep, now it's time to get busy with the die grinder to do some port matching. Anybody heard of using ATF as a cutting oil to keep the aluminum shavings from clogging up the cutter?

Sb, can you clarify? The ports on the intake are significantly smaller than the ports on the heads. The intake gasket lines up almost perfectly with the ports when laid over the head. When I lay the gaskets on the intake, as you can see in the picture below, the ports are quite a bit smaller.
http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/...9/IMG_1853.jpg Waste of time. You are overthinking.....Unless, you know how to properly shape the plenum and esoecially runner entrances, compute port lengths and properly adjust them, and + figure your min csa and port taper needed...but, with such a 'basic' performance build (ie: rpm/cam/etc) then that wouldn't be worth the 1k+ for someone to do it for you. You have a good build going. Bolt on that damn intake, get your pushrods in, and go boating. |
Thanks SB. I'm well known for overthinking things. Goes with the territory in my line of work. :ernaehrung004:

I did some extensive port matching and also some bowl work as well on my heads and air gap intake..... I got some aluminum cutting fluid and it works really good but don't go too fast with the cutter or it will melt the aluminum and clog your bit..... I matched It all up on the fel-pro gasket and it all matched up perfectly....... Here is a previous thread that shows the amount of material I had to remove.......

If only Chevy had made the Cross-Fire Injection setup for the big block....:stooges:

So in other words, even if a retard like me had a die grinder, motivation, and a bunch of time on my hands, I would likely do more harm than good. Go ahead, say it - I can take it. Rolls right off my back after the circus that this thread turned into.:party-smiley-020:
Go have a few buds and get the damn thing done already. |

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...ead-509-a.html In fact, on intakes that do, you need to tap and plug that holse so it won't be open to the runner. Anyway, as far as dual planes go, 70% of the power to be gained by these are in the plenum - mostly transition from plenum to runners. Yeh, hard to get to on lower plane. And in the more pronounced curves on the runners. Sometime you have to whole saw these areas open to access this. Kinda overkill for most I/O builds, but atleast most 496+cid engines better utilize a smaller (Vic Jr/ Dart 4150, or etc) single pane intake anyway. Many 540+'s can utilize a 'medium' size single plane like a Victor 454R or etc. |
