Single trim switch on dual engines ???
Hi all,
Got a tricky question, twin 496ho's that need to be kept electrically separate, trying to fit a cp billet trim switch onto the throttles but need to; a. keep the motors electrically separate b. still be able to adjust drives separately if needed. Sorta worked out how to do it with heaps of diodes & relays, just wondering how everyone else does it ?? Has anyone found a dual gang trim swith (throttle mount) for example ? I live in a pretty remote part of the world as far as performance boats go. cheers, Dave. |

you can buy it from Mercruiser, its named Dioden Kit for Dual Engines.
You need one for up and one for down ! one 812497A3 green and one 812497A4 blue 848926A2 Switch 848922 Switchholder 848923 Switchholderbackplate 845587 screws Thats only if you dont find a nother dioden solution ! |

single switch dual engines
Use diodes with at least 5-10 amps current capacity and at least 200 PIV. Use quality diodes and you will probably never have to worry about them. Although you will be running only 12 volts or so through them, the higher PIV ( peak inverse volts ) provides a more durable isolation junction. The higher current ratings also provide larger wire to solder to. Insulate well with heat shrink and silicon and forget them.

Why not just go with a dual switch to control each drive seperatly at your finger tips :)
I have ordered one but have not made the time to install I am always reaching down to adjust one side or the other just a bump or two. This will allow indipentant response at instant reaction I ordered mine out of Rex marine along with a single switch mounted to hte sterring wheel for my center trim tab :) http://www.rexmar.com/page40.html |
Diodes, they do everything with diodes these days.
4 diodes and a spdt momentary center off switch, single power source. Or a dpdt momentary center off switch, with 2 power sources. Just make sure there is a separate power source for each of the individual trim switchs. Not sure how to post a schematic though. Gary |
