Dumb? Trim Question

I have been around boats my whole life and should know the answer to this but it is somehow escaping me. How does the tilt/trim work on the zero-effort controls? 2004 Caravelle Interceptor 6.2L/ Bravo I. On mine there is no trailer switch. I can just keep trimming up into trailer position. The switch is not three position; down, up and trailer. I know on many outboards there is a pressure relief valve that prevents overtrimming while under way. On an I/O there is a trim limit switch on the drive unit. I was wanting to check my trim limit as per the service manual (21 3/4") but it just swings right up. What am I missing here on this design? Thanks for any insight.

Trim it up untill you have the 21 3/4 distance then look at you trim gauge or indicator and remember the setting or mark it, then dont go past it. most likely the prop will blow out before your trimmed to far.

This might help it you want to add a toggle and wire it up for a trailer switch....

Never thought of doing that. Thanks

Are you saying these things don't use a trailer switch and therefore do not limit trim?

Correct.

depending on how it was wired. Also consider a lot of offshore boats use mechanical indicators, so there are no trim sender or limit pucks.,

True, there are capabilities that may not have been wired in by whomever rigged the boat. I've seen the 21 3/4 distance on the trim rams mentioned before.

The best thing to do is mark neutral on your indictor with a Sharpie, then you may end up running a couple ticks over that. Anything more and you are likely scrubbing speed, not gaining it even if the boat feels light, flightly, and fast.

Set the boat at 4000 rpm, and watch the decimals on your GPS as you trim up and down. Find the best trim setting (speed), and let this be a place to start for upper RPM range.

Where is this 21 3/4 measured from?

Well, you learn something everyday. Thanks guys for the insight,

If it has an electric trim guage, the guage reading will vary some depending on if the boat is on plane, at rest, or on the trailer.
