does it have to be SFI approved and internally balanced to use it as a cutting board on the kitchen table?

Uh yeeeeah!

Turns out this is a 2 piece unit, and I needed a 1 piece. Anyone know of a relatively inexpensive neutral balance flywheel for a 1 piece main?

Check with your machine shop on how much to neutral balance a Factory 1 piece seal flywheel.

On this style flywheel, you'd remove metal (drilling) vs adding weight.

Worth a call.

Yeah I thought about that but wondered if a SFI style was available. Seem to be few and far between. Makes sense though. Probably going to call my machinist tomorrow. Thx!

Figure after machining this might be a better deal. And it's SFI billet, with removable weight.

I've done some checking and spoke with my machine shop that builds short track and super modified SBC and BBC Chevy engines . . For a zero balance or internally balanced engine BBC or SBC 2 pc rear main, this flywheel should fit and be correct.
They checked alignment, BC diameter and alignment pin location all match up when this flywheel is used on a BBC INTERNALLY balanced set up.

Beau, I'll also refund your monies if you feel uncomfortable about going forward

borgie,i responded to your pm.im pretty sure the wheel you got from mario is correct for your neutral balanced engine.

Mario,

First, you have been awesome helping me with this.

Mike T, Thank you!!

From several sources it seems like the 1 piece flywheel center hole is smaller in diameter than the 2 piece. The bolt pattern is the same SB/BB chevy, but the center hole is different, so people don't swap them accidentally is what I'm understanding. If this is not the case please list the correct info for others.

This would be the correct flywheel. Just need to unbolt the counter weight for my internal balance callies crank.

Borg, have you tried to see if it will physically bolt up to your crank? I would think that if it bolts up, and is internally balanced, has the right diameter and number of teeth, then it should work.
