Go to NAPA and buy a 51060R Wix filter...that's the cross over for the HP4

Pismo10 04-25-2014 05:40 PM

Any certain reason you are steering away from the HP4? I run them with no problems at all. I understand the other Fram filters are no gem but the HP series seems as stout of filter as any other racing filter.

Make sure you inspect Wix filters before you install it. I showed the NAPA guy 3 filters that still had machining / stamping metal burrs near the treads. I now look over all filters very closely.

Do a search. This has been discussed literally hundreds of times here on OSO.

The favorite among the masses here at OSO is the Wix oil filter, which is sold under the Napa label.

For others, the wix 51069r is needed to fit between the remote and the exhaust manifold. Shorter version of the 60r.

Napa Gold 1060, its the Wix filter, learned that here though. It isn't the r style filter from Wix from what I was told, but was also told the difference between the 51060 Wix(napa gold 1060) and the 51060r is the psi capabilities, is made more robust. Guy at Napa told me that, even though he seemed knowledgeable regarding Wix and the napa filter, take it for what it is.

Wish I could help you with a different brand and #, but I will stick with the Fram HP-4s they have worked great for me for a Very Very long time. No need for me to look elsewhere.

Have you ever cut a fram filter open?

abones 04-27-2014 04:37 PM

Never had a lower end failure in 45 years, so No I never had any reason to cut any filter apart. Been a mechanic most of my life and guess if it worked all these years why change now. But I tell me what you know about the main reason to make the change!

Just do a Google or youtube search of filter comparisons and you will see some quality, and some lack there of i usef to use fram for everything because I was buying into the big $$ name. Not anymore.

I didn't see the Fram HP series on that site? but they said it will be tested soon! Does anyone know anything about the Mercury Filters used on the High HP motors? I would think they have tested and approved them.?
