need help to set rpm wire

I install est ignition but when I connect rpm wire from the coil to the GAY wire engine stop running ( my boat mercusier )would some one tell me what wrong and how to make tach work thank.

Ayuh,.... If the motor dies from hookin' up the tach, odds are the tach, or it's wire is a dead short to ground,...

today I go find down I may run wire from tach to coil and see what up next thanks.

thanks I was found out problem the tach wire was connect to ground .
