well there has to be an answer to rectifying the situation of blow out.
Either bigger props or something I dont know this cant be a normal thing. And yes Im going to sell it wife wants me to go smaller problem is does any of these boat dealers take trade in's? or is it all brokerage? IF it is a brokerage deal im going to have this for a LONG ass time or just give it away for like 15 grand and deal with the log in the ass. I feel like such a tart since when I get to the ramp I hear all the boats blasting by and im the one that cant get this tub of crap to even move. Jason |

Don't give up now bro put it aside and let it rest if need be but you got a dam cool Baja and you will be pist off latter if you sell it now for dirt or penuts. Seen it to many times with older cars. Charlie

Okay here is the latest my friends
I spoke to engine builder and he had called MANNING (maker of oil pumps) Seems they had a bad run according to engine builder and they are paying to replace them and the cost to pull engines in and out. So I called Oh Holy One (Ike) Gave the price Ike is going to charge to the engine builder and we have a deal going here Ike's speculation from me detailing the problem with the oil pressure is bad main bearings (as is RCM255's speculation) Engine builder is sticking to oil pump. I have to tow the boat over to Ike's shop this weekend or next week and drop it off for him to yank out both engines. I do have some wrenching to do though, have to disconnect everything, yank fuel lines, yank all the brackets and alternators and PS pumps and sea water pumps and oil coolers ect. Then Ike has a clear shot to get in there, yank em out and give me a call so I can come out, pick up both engines and drop them off at engine builders for a complete diagnosis of the problem. Damn shame im on vacation to Ocean City Maryland to a 3 bedroom condo with a boat dock for a week and WONT HAVE A BOAT Nice huh? As for selling it, Wife really feels uncomfortable cause it has had so many problems getting it to be reliable and run correctly she just would rather me get rid of it and get something else. she wants smaller single, I want bigger twin I think this will be a relatively small issue cause if I can find something decently priced with a full enclosed head and not a porta potty she will go for it as long as I beat the snot out of it on the test drive and it goes goes goes goes and does not have any problems Sonic anyone? Say 28-30-31-34 SS ????????????? Jason |
Jay,
I don't ever think you'll resolve the size of boat issue with your wife (I haven't with mine  ). As far as a Sonic....shoot an email to Fred. |
I am still betting on main bearings being the cause of the oil pressure problem. Be sure to check the tolerances before reinstalling the engine. I find it hard to believe you could get two bad oil pumps at the same time. Good luck.

If you are running a standard 21 Mirage, they did not have alot of cup. While your motors are out, if there is a prop shop close take them and have more cup put in them. Have the cup come out to the leading edge a little bit this should help the blowout. You also don't need 27 or bigger turning 4400. You'll never turn them. If the motors are what the builder says they are, that boat should turn the 21's 6000. It should pop on plane with 21's. While motors are out pull valve covers and check cams to see if they are wasted. I know you once questioned that. |
Jay Your boat with a STOCK that is right BONE STOCK 330hp 454 will go almost 70 with Mirage plus 25" props!!!!! So that being said you have to evaluate what you are doing!!!! Remember that a long long long time ago Audacity and I said set up set up set up....... That is because proper set up with stock stuff can yeild you a number of MPH. Maybe if you can not resolve your issues soon then you can sell the motors that this clown built you to a car guy and get yourself STOCK 330's and run the **** out of them for 700+ hours of trouble free boating like Biggus did. The stock 330's will get you very close to your speed goals and better yet they get you on the water and your wife happy with the boat!!!!!!
Oh ya to answer your question. More prop at this point will only make all your problems worse. Smaller pitch prop will always get the boat out faster then a steeper pitched one. With those motors if they ran they should be turning up a 27-29 would be my guess unless you put in a better crank and plan on turning them up higher on the RPM's then maybe a 26. HOWEVER you got problems bro and I think you are going to find your motors to be pooched. My only hope is that the oil pump people stand behind the repairs if that is the case. Jon |
Well my friends
It is the bottom of the 9th, score is tied, it is time for the big one! I am towing it to Ike's on Saturday morning which means I have to derig it real fast this week (that damn work thing again getting in the way of my boat DAMN IT) get back seats, engine hatch off, risers off, alternators, PS pumps, Sea water pumps, all hoses and clamps, drop the oil coolers and PS oil coolers, and then im done should not be that big of a deal but little bit here little bit there makes a difference what really sucks is I was going to take the boat to OCMD from the 31'st to the 7th of sept for my once a year vacation and even rented a place with a dock Maybe by the good graces of god, the engine builder will get engines fast , replace oil pumps and main bearings and check it all out, get it back to me fast to dump in and maybe by that saturday morning of the 31'st have it ready to rock and roll? Think im dreaming? ThIs SuCkS! |
SIR, PUT THE BONG DOWN!

When I powered up my 1st 252SS Formula, full roller 454 w/Procharger..... I tried to get on plane with my original 19" Mirage.......never happen !!! Tried a 21".... never happen11
Finally ended up with a 26" Bravo 4 blade and a 26 Mirage Plus 3 blade. The 26" Mirage Plus still would not bring it on plane!! until I had a "maximum cup" put in it by Hoss Props. You either don't have enough pitch, enough prop area or insufficcient cup in the prop. I never gained a single mph with the 3 blade versus the 3 blade. I ran 75 mph on GPS.....still gaing speed when chine walk set in. Too small of pitch will definetly cause blow out as the surface area is not large enough to hold the horsepower. My current 312 Formula- Procharged 454 EFI Mag's, uses 28" Bravo's...and runs over 80. Borrow some props to try or use and exchange service like CP Performance. They are who I used.... big props are rare as hens teeth here!! :) |
