I guess we'll just have to sit tight and wait for the results of hadley's testing.

I had some time to mess around with this idea yesterday. It seems that no matter where I position the nose of the pipe in the collector it will get moisture in it. I have the long collectors on my headers (non silent choice). So I tried a smaller diameter pipe and stuck it right into one of the header tubes. It seemed to stay dry this way. The only problem is the smaller diameter pipe wasn't long enough to get the tail end out of the water spraying out my exhaust. So Tuesday I will grab a longer piece of the smaller diameter pipe (actually electrical conduit) and put a 90 degree bend straight up on it to get the tail end up and away from the spray and see how this works. Meanwhile I took the boat and did some plug chops to get my new fuel pressure regulators dialed in.

Tried another idea today. Took a smaller piece of pipe (1 1/4" o.d.) and stuck it 3" up one of my header pipes (so it was actually 3" in front of the collector). I was still getting mist coming out of the pipe. I have given up on this idea for now. I had no idea that even the header tubes would have moisture in them. I think welding a bung in these Lightning headers is probably not going to work either. Even though I have the longer collectors.
I am disappointed that I can't use my O2 sensor and will have to rely on my limited experience reading plugs for now. |
After talking to a friend at work i was reminded that if you hold your hand over a car exhaust you will also feel a little moisture. A by-product of normal combustion. So i decide to go ahead and install the O2 sensor in my sniffer pipe and it has survived so far. I have only had a chance to run it on the hose in the yard so far. I have a renewed faith that this may work! I also have a few other refinements to this idea that I plan on trying.

A little moisture is ok.. mine were pretty wet and still lived at least long enough for a day of testing. Ive gotten 3 new free o2`s , gotta love the Oreilleys lifetime warranty :D

sitting on a hose won't tell you anything...it's the WOT and backing off that kills them....after 3 pretty confident...so film @11 !!!
