496 Mag HO Rev Limiter ?

What is the rev limit on this engine? I know the max operating range is 5000RPM. Is it a hard limiter or a soft limiter where it pulls timing?
I'm turning 5100 with one person and half a load of fuel and I have to back off a good bit to get the rpm's down.

Two or three people and R's are at 5000. Just wondering if I am up against the limiter.

You would know if you hit the rev limiter. It will feel like an engine miss. Rev limiter is about 5150rpms.

Thanks, from what I have read on here I knew the rev limiter hit at 5150 but I didn't know if it was something you could feel (hard limiter) or if it just started to retard timing (soft limiter).

Boat is new to me and I had some nicks in the leading edges of the prop blades repaired and it seems like I picked up 100-150 R's but it could just be the weather.

I was trying to figure out if I needed to tweak the prop a little but I think I will wait and see how it does when it gets hot and humid.
