Steering leak at the helm

After running the boat(2001 fountain lightning) for about 20 min. I get steering fluid leaking from where the steering wheel shaft enters the pump. Any ideas? I'm thinking there is an O-ring leaking. Thanks

Reviving an old thread that no one replied to... having the same issue myself. Anyone else have this issue?

the helm is not a pump, just a fluid director, most made by charlynn(something like that) has full P/S pump pressure, it is a critical seal

I just ran into this problem. Latham steering hardware with ITS and dual power steering pumps. I noticed a very consistent drip from under the helm. Traced it to a seal on the top of the steering "full power helm" box. Called Latham to send in for repair and the part is non-rebuildable. Ordered a new one at the cost of $1,100, they are specific ratios and specific to ITS or non ITS. Leak is fixed but costly if you have Latham.
