Running hot according to the gauge.....454

I have a 1993 29 Powerquest that has T 454 -330 HP stock.. I bought it last year and it has always ran what i thought was warmer according to the gauge at 180-190 but the previous owner said it has always ran that way..

I have put maybee 40 hours on it and it runs about 190 according to the guage ... I will stop and feel the hoses and yes they are warm but by no means HOT i mean you would not want to hold on to the hoses all day ...but by no means like Wow that was hot ...!

The Belt is tight on the Sea Pumps

Can some of the Great Minds of OSO point me in the right direction ?

A) The guages are Autometer marine.....

B) Both engines run right around the same temp.

C) Oil pressure is right around 50 most of the time.

Do you have a Laser Temp gun? It's a great way to call bullshlt on a gauge/sender. They are cheap now at Home Depot or Lowes. And they are fantastic tools for checking your trailer bearings/brakes/tires.

I believe the autometer gauges require there own temp sender. May be worth a phone call to tech department on Monday and go from there...

They probably have the wrong senders on the engine.

also possible that in the past someone put 180 thermostats in it.

I went to the depot and got one from Ryobi...for $30 how can you go wrong ?

powerqrudy 07-06-2014 05:58 PM

ok, yanked the Thermostat on the one engine and it ran at 150 on the gauge ,,, the other motor that i did not touch ran at 180 on the gauge and my little ryobi tool says it was at 150 ? so who knows ? maybe ran it for 2 hours. Ran great and the oil pressure was at 50 psi all day other that at a idle.
