Merc Solid Hub or not?
 

Just wondering can you take a solid hub Mirage and convert it to a normal ruber hub? Never heard that asked. I have a 21p Mirage that I really would like to keep but It's a solid hub. What are the reasons for going to a solid hub anyways......

Solid hubs are used for high horsepower.You don't want to covert if possible to a different hub. I know the old ones you can't I am not sure if you can the new ones.

Why wouldn't I want to switch? This is for a mild smallblock/Alpha pushing about 360hp. It is a Mirage not Mirage Plus. So you think it is probally not possiblle.....Anybody else second that????

The newer probs would be possible. I don't know about the older ones.

I just purchased 2 Mirage Plus props and was given the choice.
The props are the same - it is just a different hub kit.

Over or near 400 HP use the solid. Under 400 HP you can use the Rubber.

The idea is that the Rubber is more forgiving and if you hit something the prop would spin on the hub causing less damage to the prop / outdrive. If the horsepower is too high, you could spin the hub within the prop.

The solid hub does not allow the prop to spin - on the hub.

Any prop shop should be able to tell you in about 10 seconds.
