vacuum pump, blown big block

Anyone run one? Any information I would love to hear.

We run (1) vacuum pump for two NA engines. It is about keeping the the engine compartment clean, not HP.

That is 100% why I want to run one. I am a clean freak!! :-) :-)

Yes, we closed off all our KE valve covers using the o-ringed VC caps and run a jump hose from the port to the Stb engine. We exit from the front of the Stb/Stb VC with a hose to the vacuum pump and then run a hose to an oil/air separator. All the hoses are -12 SS braided. We then run a 3" flex hose from the oil/air separator to a small alum box mounted on the back of the engine compartment side vents. There is a pop-off valve on a VC on both engines in case the VP fails and a vacuum control valve on the VP to hold the vacuum steady (too much vacuum will pull out too much oil). After 25 years, we finally have no oil in the bilge.....unless there is a f'en leak!

Any body tried extractors on a marine application?

PARASAIL941 07-20-2014 08:13 PM

Back in the 1992 ,Stainless Marine incorporated a set of pan evacuators (like the ones on drag race headers) on my water jacketed tailpipes. I showed Jerry what they looked like ,and he made them in stainless. I did it for the hp gain shown on the dyno, (just a couple hp ,but it all counts). Never had to much blowby but that might have been the Total Seal rings. 468 cid, 9.5 to 1 comp. , oval ports ,stealth dual planes., Comp solid rollers, Russ Barfield 900 cfm carbs. 574 hp. Used to buzz them around 6500rpm.

I wouldn't get real crazy putting a vaccum on a blower motor. Need to keep some oil on the pistons...
