I bought a NEW snout for my Littlefield 8.71 from Nutech, it failed with in a hour. I think I got screwed. when I received it the first time the bearings were real tight sent back to redo , got it back still had hard spot,he said run it, Oil started pukeing out the front,I tore down, one bearing was spinning in the race and the oil seal was missing part of the lip.

after looking at the guts I think it was a used part, Look at the seal surface ,it has pits in it, and the shaft is knurled on one bearing surface,Im told they do that when the shaft is small to make it bigger, press fit

It has sealed bearing im told it needs open bearings for the oil to get to

The old seal was double lip, the new one he sent was single lip

Also this was suppose to be the 1 1/4 shaft

The splines look used also

Ive got new bearings and seal ,Im going to try and see if I can do a better job of putting it together, if not I think the snout housing is machine off , the reason the bearings were tight to begin with.

What do you guys think??

I had Magno at NuTech build this for me at a certain length, The reason I used him. http://motorpartsfanaticseller1.auct...2fdefault.aspx

Im no expert, but that looks like you got crap. I would think, you would not want a sealed bearing, in the snout. Rear bearings obviously you would. Although I dont think that was the issue. Are you saying the race was turning with the bearing? If the bearing is loose in the housing, that can wear the seal out in no time.

Those are not new parts, you got hosed, and I'd be pizzed if it were me ! That thing is built from junk.

I would give littlefield a call and go new...that is speaking from experience

Yea when I turn the shaft you could see the snap ring turn with the race ,guess it had a bad spot that would grab and spin about 1/2 turn, the one bearing feels gritty, made in china,

And I got the new seal he sent me and its the wrong seal, od is to big and a single lip, he want answer his phone or tex or email, its time to fu ck him up, this is bull ****.Im going start finding out info on him.

This Magno use to work for BDS

Talked to Goodvibrations/Dragparts.com Randy said they know of Magno and said he comes by and buys some used and new parts from them.

the prob with other snouts I have a weird length, so im going to have to run a spacer around .600 thick, and buy new swing arm etc, they all say this stuff interchanges, that they all make them the same, thats BS the dia of the snout is diff on most of them,

Im also thinking that most of these blower company's are not making most of this stuff, their having it made for them.

Strip, is that your 5.15" snout?
I will send you my spare 5.15" complete with coupler for $150 if you need it to get you going. I just bought your 7" snout as a spare. All parts I have gotten from you have been excellent, thanks.
It is having new bearings put in the 5.15" snout right now, they just did not feel perfect so I wanted new bearings in it if I sold it.

I was having snout bearing issues also. Turns out I need to put more oil in the case, actually over the sight glass height on a Blower Shop blower.

Just an aside, I found that one of my NEW idler pulleys' sealed bearings had very little grease, squealed when hot... Took them out, greased the bearings and now it is quiet.

Oh yeah, the snout bearings should NOT have grease seals, the gear oil needs to get to them. The seal keeps the oil from running out the front; needs to hold a fair amount of pressure as the blower gets warm/hot. As stated above, the bearing races do not turn on the shaft or the housing; so when you turn the shaft, the inner races and the snap ring turn with it. They are a press fit inner and outer just as the idler pulley is.

Thanks for the offer on the snout,if this doesn't work to day Im just going order a new one from a name brand company.Hey glad that snout is going to work for you, it was 10 times the quality of the one i had made, The snout length i need is 5.800, I was trying to not run the spacers, just don't like that idea.anything shorter theres not much room for the idler arm,Im trying to keep the crank pulley set up short as possible being the sbc crank snout are prone to breaking off,I plan on turning it up.

The blower shop web site shows some replacement sealed bearings for the blower snout, and 2 diff kinds of front seals, my buddy that helping me has a press,he had the same bearings made in Turkey, the looked alot better quality that the China bearing Nutesh sent me, im just screwed on the seal deal.

thanks for all the help

That doesn't look new!! The shaft is knurled, the bearings should not be sealed, and the shaft splines; look worn. I have replaced seals in the snouts from TBS. When a blower is rebuilt; the snout should go with it. Every time; I had blowers rebuilt the snout is done also.
