Do those have any protection against water washing back up into the pipes?

They are mufflers. I don't see having a reversion problem nor have I had one.

I have a set that I ran with my last motor. They have internal baffles to deaden the sound, and this by itself would help a little bit with water washing up the pipes. They also have a flapper built into them, which is what really does the job keeping water out of your motor.

I moved up to the larger 8 inch Corsa muffled tips because I had a few concerns with back pressure for a 600 HP engine. The smaller tips pictured would probably be fine all the way up to around 500 HP, maybe a little more.

When you say baffles, you are speaking off a lined wall that you can still see through correct? I see where the need for flappers are there.

Mine are muffled. I don't see water getting passed them easily.

I'm running +- 600 hp. I was thinking about getting straight thru tips. Reason I posted this was to get a good idea what they are worth. I didn't think about back pressure. What made you think there was an issue?
I'm on the fence about switching. I like my current look and sound. I'm used to a louder boat.

Check out GGB mufflers, we have them on the new520 motors no loss of rpm. nice part is you can remove the muffler element to hear the difference

I didn't necessarily think there was a back-pressure issue, but I switched them for two reasons. #1, Corsa recommends the bigger tips for higher HP applications, and #2, I had some of my gel coat come off when the other tips were removed years ago, and the larger diameter tips did a good job hiding this. I like the looks of the angle cut tips like the ones on your boat versus the donkey dicks with the salisbury flapper, and a friend of mine had them on his Powerquest that was equipped with an HP465 (454 version of HP500). He switched them to straight thru non-muffled tips, and saw no performance gain at all, just a lot more noise. If you are above 600 HP, then you might see a difference with something more free-flowing, but I don't think they are a major issue. Others' experiences may differ, so you may hear some different opinions on this.
