if you want it to run properly you MUST use the origional mercury marine parts.the part # biggus posted will wreak havoc if used on a mercury marine engine.my cousin,s brothers daughters boyfriend tried to use that same part on his 525 efi motor and it would shift into neutral at 1224 rpm.if he tried to rev it higher it speued black smoke and at 2021 rpm it would autoshift into reverse and die.NEVER GET CHEEP AND USE NON MERCURY MARINE PARTS.we all know they know what works best.

I would only buy the Mercury sensor because there are lots of Mercury sensors out there that have not failed after hundreds of hours. That really says something.

I don't see where the original post mentioned that both engines have the same problem. If that is the case, as was mentioned, I would concentrate on things that are common to both. Most likely, what I am thinking would not be too probable on both engines. In any case, take a look at the even side of your engine. down in front attached to the seapump is a mechanical fuel pump. It is somewhat common that the diaphragm cracks, sending fuel up that green tube and dumping it in the rear throttle body. That would certainly cause a rich condition.

I didn't see where it was both either, after checking the fuel pump I would check fuel pressure. Had a 500efi this summer ran fine at 2000rpm and up, below that it would load up on fuel cough sputter etc. Bad fuel regulator, pump was putting out around 80psi which is normal but with no regulator it causes bad things to happen. If I remember correctly it is suppose to be around 38-40psi.

Bad MAP sensor will dump fuel at lower rpm's, higher will clean out as it can burn the excess fuel.
