HELP PLEASE....Thoughts on repowering
I have a 2007 260 sea ray sundeck. Dry weight 4960 6.2 MPI Bravo III w approx 250 hrs. The current engine is having some issues. Local mechanic said it needs to be rebuilt due to leaking cylinders(appears to be rings at least). I am hesitant to rebuild this motor and only have it last another 250 hrs. Seems it might be runningt to hard to push this much weight(from reading the archives). Thinking 8.2 HO. Don't want to have to run premium gas(just becuase it's not always available on water where I boat) I was wanting your thoughts. Would like to stay fuel injected and keep the smartcraft guages(is that a good idea?). I am in North Alabama, need some input of reccommended shops to contact to discuss doing the work. TN, Georgia, KY is not too far to haul boat to get good work done.
Thanks in advance for your comments and recommendations. |
I have seen the small blocks take some abuse in ballasted out fully loaded wake boats for.way longer than they should have .until water sneaks.back in .through exhaust is your 6.2 dry joint ?

i would have someone else do a compression&leak down test.the 6.2 should go for way more than 250 hrs.i have a friend with a 9000 lb boat and the 6.2 does get worked a lot harder in it than in your boat.i also recommend testing&cleaning the injectors every 100 hrs.

New trailer came in today. Now I can actually take it to someone who knows what they are doing.

Can you be more specific with what the engine is doing? I agree with MikeTkach. That engine should last much longer than 250 hrs.
