Bravo change

Are the bolt patterns, water passages, ect. the same for all bravos? Can I use new bravos to replace my 1989 units without replacing the transom assemblies?

Thanks
Russ

Yep! I did the exact same thing this past spring. Put a 2002 BravoI on my 1989 bell housing. The ONLY difference (and no biggy) is where the pin goes thru the drive from the back end of the trim cylinders. The new ones have a slot instead of a hole and uses a spacer/adapter to fill the unused portion of the hole. Instructions are included with the new drive:cool: .

But I understand that the upper and lowers are differerent. In other words, you cant use a late model upper with an early lower and vise versa. Or so Ive been told.

formula31, You're right , early Bravo I's with the shorter gear cases (front to back) are not compatible with newer (longer gear cases). The oil passage between the upper and lower are different and you will burn something up:( . But to change the entire outdrive from the six mounting bolts down...no problem mon:D !

So it would be correct in saying you must have a new style upper to use Imcos short lower ?
