1976 stinger jet boat

I have a guy who wants to trade me for a 1976 stinger 460 ford jet boat. Does anyone have any idea what it would be worth? Needs section of floor fresh motor and rebuilt pump not sure what kind of jet it is. Any input I appreciate.

riverrunner242 11-10-2014 05:03 PM

Yeah sorry I read that after I posted it. Also needs a throttle cable.

502ss 11-10-2014 05:14 PM

Are you saying it has a fresh motor and a rebuilt pump?

riverrunner242 11-10-2014 05:55 PM

1 start up on fresh 460 supposedly jet was done when motor was.

Jamie77905 11-10-2014 06:33 PM

yes if you are on Facebook search a page called jet boats rock might can find more info on that page. Do you have any pictures? They were made by Wriedt and it is probably a berkley pump

That looks like it's just a stock pump, no droop snoot no place divertor.

What has been done to the motor?

riverrunner242 11-10-2014 08:44 PM

Supposedly just a fresh 460 ported and polished heads no idea on hp holley 750 double pumper

airjunky 11-10-2014 08:45 PM

Panther pump is going to kill resale value unless its dialed in ,most are not .if the 460 is the late king cobra 9 to 1 people get a little giddy on those .could bring 1500-2k .

riverrunner242 11-10-2014 08:50 PM

What kind of pump do you want to have?

riverrunner242 11-10-2014 08:51 PM

How can I identify which 460 it is?

airjunky 11-10-2014 08:52 PM

You will have to go into the pump and see how the impeller and wear ring look ,and the gap between the hull top cap and transom looks dicey from pics ,could be 3000 parted won't bring over 4500 looking running like it just rolled off the showroom floor .

riverrunner242 11-10-2014 09:03 PM

If I'm looking for a jet boat what kinda pump should I look for? Berkley?

Sydwayz 11-10-2014 09:06 PM

Ford are not too popular in those boats, and almost everyone prefers a Berkeley pump.

Given how rough the interior looks and sans any other facts, I'd say $2500 tops.

airjunky 11-10-2014 09:07 PM

Need to peek in spark plug hole and see if you see trw flat tops .look for roller cam ,thermactor bumps machined out of exhaust ports .without any or all of those , they didn't try ,and its likely under 300 hp .and its a panther pump

airjunky 11-10-2014 09:15 PM

If your trading something something you got cheap ,you could get your foot in the door in jet boat land ,at 1000$ you could roll the dice ,learn the ropes and decide if its for you or not.

riverrunner242 11-10-2014 09:36 PM

Yeah still kicking it around. I have a quad that's worth about 1500 realistically and I like toys that float much more lol

airjunky 11-10-2014 10:26 PM

Here , 1500 buys a kona ,sj , ect rigged hull with a set back pump on a tandem trailer ,install a proper BBC with headers and you have a 70+ mph boat with resale value

Jamie77905 11-11-2014 05:21 AM

For 1500 I would try it. After seeing the pictures my previous price range was high I would say 2000 max.

ezstriper 11-11-2014 06:41 AM

$1500-2000 max

riverrunner242 11-11-2014 08:22 AM

Thanks for the input. I was about to drive 7 hours for the trade so I think I'll pass on it and try to find something closer

airjunky 11-11-2014 09:34 AM

Had to park my butt and scan Michigan craigslist for jet boat players ,only saw one contendor , the white one with the blown olds 455 .unless your into funky colors .

riverrunner242 11-11-2014 09:46 AM

Yeah I'm in nj and there really isnt much here. That one was in Ohio happened to stumble across it.

This is a 1975 Wriedt Stinger. I paid $2500 for it. 460 Ford, Berkeley 12jc. Boat was in great shape. All I did was clean it up a bit run run the heck out of it. Jet boats are all over the place in the West. You may want to make a road trip.

riverrunner242 11-11-2014 12:07 PM

I might end up doing that.

airjunky 11-11-2014 09:23 PM

I still have a line on the kona , white ,nice tandem trailer berk set back pump blueprinted hull set up.for BBC ..right up the street from the shop . Was definetly set up.to run well past the avg 65 or so .$1500 bucks and the sacred cows at your local lake will instantly take you seriously . If you get a good motor in it

riverrunner242 11-12-2014 07:16 AM

Where is it located?

airjunky 11-13-2014 07:36 PM

North texas by.lake lewisville

I was out in Havasu about 10 years ago and was picked up a boat trader , Blew me away how many Jets and V drives you could pick up for about the price it would cost you to build a cheap motor.

My son has two Tahiti's in his back yard right now. He got both for Free, both on trailers. One is all there with a 455 olds and Berkeley pump, the other has a pump but no motor. Both could be water ready without much work or money.

airjunky 11-15-2014 10:48 PM

You California guys have it made with the weather so cal beaches ,and plentiful cheap jet boats..here , many are listed ,few will sell .but offshore boats , like shooting fish in a barrel .east coat seems to have all the performance goodies at a price that means business .
