Carb to EFI

Switching over from 1050 dominator CARB to the Holley HP EFI system. running MSD crank trigger/box and distributor. Now I am thinking might as well take this to the next level and go CNP (Coil near Plug). Holley smart coils will plug right into the ECU. Does anyone know if I can find a set of valve covers that I can bolt coils onto? or some sort of brackets? Can the mercury distributor be used as a cam sensor (Halls Effect) for this EFI setup? (right now, I am looking at an MSD EFI but I would prefer to remove ALL MSD from my setup). One last question. Is there a base MAP out the for marine Holley EFI? something that might get me closer to a more preferred marine fuel-map.

Motor: 540 (NA) 9.2:1 comp.. Mild cam (640/646 lift 340/346 duration 114 LS) never spins more then 5600/5700 RPM.

thanks in advance
John

Call Mark at MER performance marine in Little River SC. He did my Holley EFI system and many others with coil packs and crank trigger set-ups. He also has your base map. Jeff Wurl

Talk to Haxbyspeed on here. He can answer all of your questions!

Can't go wrong with either of those, and there is also young performance in your neck of the woods.
Good luck and keep us posted

Sweet upgrade I bet you will love it!

I'm also in the process of a similar setup, agree with ditching the MSD and running CNP. Wish I had more info for you but I am learning myself. Keep us updated on the project!

Haxby got me all dialed in with my Holley set up, he should be able to get you a base map. There might even be one in the standard bunch that you could use, then just auto tune.

Pretty happy with the whole set up, as user friendly as EFI can get.

Spoke to Alex earlier this morning. Wonderful guy to chat with. Yeah, he said he would hook me up with a base map. Looking forward to EFI. Should be a great conversion. Long over due.

What's the ball park price for this, if you don't mind sharing.

JohnSchiavarelli 11-13-2014 10:47 AM

Price is yet to be determined. The 1000cfm kit is around 2800 or so. Without a fuel pump and injectors. the injectors are around $350. I have not decided on a fuel pump yet, not sure which direction to go there. You also have to factor in anything related to ignition system. Crank trigger, cam sensor, ect.. I can post a far more accurate figure when I get more into the prohject.

I went black...er...I mean EFI and I will never go back. We did a lot of pretty nonstandard mods. Haxby and Mark both made it a piece of cake and I got great results.

I upgraded to EFI on both my motors, bout some used FAST EFI systems, holley single plane intakes, 1000cfm throttle bodies off EBAY, and some Walbro 255LPH pumps. I will never go back to carbed! I had Holley on my drag car, really nice set-up. You can use a RACEPAC dash with some interface modules and have the top dog. For you, the Holley HP will work perfect, and will do more than you need!

Had a few buddies have really good luck with the Holley EFI fuel pumps. I bought a Holley 12-890 a few months back. Should be reporting shortly on how it performs. Really it's likely overkill at around 650hp. We will see.

Went coil on plug as well, batch fire per Alex's advice. Bought Delco D585 high output LsX coils and 58x wheel. Buying some other parts a la carte. A big thanks to gimmefuel! Gave me the inspiration for ditching my distribitor in the first place. ;)

I happen to stumble across a couple of 2002 silverado's and scored the whole coil assembies w/ harness.best part,$40 each.I even took a couple of coils as spares.so if you can walk a junk yard,,keep a 10mm socket and ratchet handy.
