I for one have a bad feeling about this. I have never had trouble with a new engine picking up oil and have installed many new oil pumps without priming them first. I personally would pull the engine back out and see what is going on. I am afraid the title of the OP's next thread is going to be "502 WITH NO OIL PRESSURE AND KNOCKING" Most engines are not that hard to get out.

If you turn an oil pump backwards it will suck air and bubble into the oil pan.

So I can get pump to prime is it is 3 or 4 quarts over filled. If I pump then back out (down to the full line on the dip stick) the motor will lose prime and won't build pressure. I got my motor as a short block, so pan was on. I'm starting to wonder if this jacka$$ didn't put the pickup on the pump.... What are your guys thoughts?

Can you remove the drain plug and look in ? If not, see if you can borrow a boroscope from someone.

It's been what, 4 months? 45 minutes to pull the engine, flip it upside down, and fix this problem the right way. Suck it up and just do it.

i once had a guy bring me an engine he bought off of ebay.he installed it in his car and it would loose oil pressure within 2 minutes of idle time.it had a .010 undersize crank with standard bearings,i put .010 under bearings and all was good.do you know who assembled the shortblock?
