Article about valve angles

Thought I'd share this with my oso tech buddies. While we all may disagree on things, isnt that the beauty of this hobby? It be boring if everyone had the same ideas. Happy new year to all. Hope the 2015 boating season is trouble free for everyone!

Great read Joe! And happy New year to you. Yes valve angle is a very complicated subject. There is much more to it than most really understand. I've spent the last couple months trying to further educate myself with these things and with all the variables that are involved with it I've come to the conclusion it's best to let the professionals do what they do and not worry about it. Otherwise you can drive yourself mad trying to get a grasp on it. Just when you think you understand it there is another variable. How far the valve sits in the head, shape of the top of the piston, quench area, intake runner length, port height on and on and on. No thanks.

How much does this really matter to my 1-1.1 hp/cu in boat engine?

aLTHOUGH i HAVE NEVER DEVIATED FROM 45* seats some exhaust stuff with 30* decades ago. Have spent a week figuring angles how many often 7 angles they tweeking angles or radii and combos of them. One we figured out what works best have a cutter made for that partular head. Say like a SBF one style chevy SB something different. It mostly effects air flow as the valve begins to open basickly improving .1 lift figures.

Nah. The shop mentioned in the article is the one who did my machine work. Does the machine work for Mike Tkachs engine builds as well. They have a good group of guys there now, and some fantastic equipment.

you can bet the prostock guys have tried every angle here...even if they only lasted 5 runs...most now change valve springs after every pass !!!!
