Oil Pan Swap / Value

Is there much value in swapping a 6qt stock steel pan for an aluminum 7 qt pan. Both are merc pans. Gen 4 454 mag being rebuilt this winter with a roller cam and rockers.

Thanks

IMO a little extra oil never hurt anything.

if you swap go bigger, like 10QT, more oil means less wear on it... cooler temps...the extra 1qt is not really worth the additional cost, unless you get pan free....

The aluminum pan will dissipate heat a lot faster than the steel pan. This can be good or bad if you have a sealed bilge the motor will invest the dissipated heat. If you have a scoop or vents the heat has somewhere to go besides the motor. Depends on the application if it will benefit or not.

more oil won,t make it cooler,it will just take a little longer to reach it,s operating temp.

But with more capacity I would have thought the oil would not cycle as fast, oh well... sounded good!!
