LOL..I agree..assuming your referencing the 16,000 mile oil change being okay if at 80°C or so.

Not to make this (subject) more than it is, that shows if you keep it constantly at that temp for the 16000 miles....ie: you can't even shut off the engine and lket it cool for a bit and then restart. Not once - lol.

Rest of article as algorithms and such to come up with mileage. That part of the article doesn't really pertain to our usage, other than just a good idea of decent oil temps for the engine.

That's all.

Decided on a Keith Eichart remote mount thermostat.

Thanks to all that took the time to reply,
Rob

Looks like CP Performance only offers them as part of a kit now. Good to know Eickert offers them ala carte!

Only thing I don't like about it is the miles of hose needed if you run your filter in the front and the cooler elsewhere. I have a Canton block adapter going to a filter pad with a Mocal t-stat unit screwed to it and a long oil cooler mounted as the stock 502 mag mpi unit. Minimum hoses, but I'm not convinced that the Mocal unit is all that great so I haven't used it. Also the filters you use on the Mocal are a little small. Oddly, the person at BAT (the Mocal Distributor) claimed the sandwich type t-stat was developed for the Precision/Volvo motors years back. I don't think they were ever used though. Really, after all these years, the original HP500 carb oil t-stats seem hard to beat to me.

I use the 1000hp oil cooler w/ built in thermostat.I use a block adapter and have my oil cooler on the oil pad side(both engines,I made it fit on the port motor and I am still able to get the the block drains. My ex nascar oil filter heads are incorporated to the modified stock 440 cyclone alternator bracket.(cut and welded an extra piece of metal in to lower the alternator.plus welded the lifting hook and oil filter pad mount),did the mods so I could install the gil manifolds w/o taking alt bracket off.

Forgot about the coolers with the built in oil stat...is everyone having good luck with those?

everyone I've used has been fine(~15).I'd bet if they didn't work for some is it might be plumbed backwards.
