How can you tell if your fuel pump is going?

My 454 started surging and sputtering at any rpm over 2000 several weeks ago. This doesn't happen until the boat is good and warm and gets worse over the course of an hour run. I am thinking bad fuel, air leak in a fuel line, or my fuel pump is going south. This is one of the pumps connected to the raw water accesory pump.
Thanks,
Ken

First I'd put a pressure gage on the line to see what's going on.
Then I'd check/replace the fuel filter(s).
If the pressure is good and the filters were replaced and it still does it, the problem could be in the carb or the ignition system.
Good luck.

if you have a spare ignition coil lying around, swap it out.
