HP500 carb thermostat aassymbly question

Does anyone have an exploded view of an hp500 carb thermostat housing? I'm wondering if the thermostat goes above or below the brass spacer ring, and what the difference would be between the two placements? Thanks in advance.

it's just a std elec holley choke...not sure what you are asking, not much to them, the coil goes in so that when you go to richer on choke it tightens the choke flap...you can google holley choke and get a pic I would think

Im talking about the water thermostat in the intake. Not the carb. I put "carb" as to decipher between carburated and efi amongst the merc 500's.

www.mercruiserparts.com always has good exploded diagrams http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...MOSTAT+HOUSING

If you have the housing that the T-stat goes in from the bottom (1 piece housing), its T-stat with spring down then the spacer. If you have the housing that loads from the top (2 piece housing) its T-stat first then spacer on top.

Very important that you do it properly, I had a customer do his own the wrong way and toasted and engine (literally).

So what would happen if the spacer were in first and then the t-stat in the top load style? Trying to make sense of how and why it was designed with the spacer....
