Intake Manifold Gaskets
I have Weiand 6130 intake - Gen 6 502 with stock heads.
Which is the right gasket for my application? Searching on here I found the Fel-Pro 1275S-3 which looks close, but I realized that it has a cutout in both the front and rear for the water passage and I don't believe I want that. http://www.jegs.com/i/Fel-Pro/375/1275S-3/10002/-1 What is the difference between that and the normal 1275? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FEL-1275/ Is there a proper gasket that seals off the rear water passage? Thanks, Eric |
I think you mean you want the water blocked in the rear.

Yes - fixed............
Thank you... |
EDIT - Looks like this is the one I want....

does your manifold have 6 or 8 holes per side for bolts

#17341 has open exhaust crossovers.
http://fme-cat.com/LiveImages/Medium...41_P04_TOP.jpg #17342 has closed off exhaust crossovers (+ rear water ports) and it appears that has slight cutouts for the factory steel lifter valley tray. http://fme-cat.com/LiveImages/Medium...42_P04_TOP.jpg |

Those 2 on the outside are not used on my current intake so it really is 6.
I think the 342 is the one I need..... |
Why Do you block off the back water passages?
|
I was always told to match the gasket to the intake not the head, your stock heads should have the outer two bolt holes but it will seal up ok

Most all intakes are blocked here anyway. Having the gasket block it off also will keep this area of the blocked ie;solid part of intake from corroding.

I have never seen a intake for a BBC that wasn't blocked off in the back... If you know of one... can you show me it? Or tell what they used them on. That would be a new one on me. I always drill and tap back there for water pressure sender, and have done both sides back there for steam pocket bleed offs.
Edit in: I see you mod your intakes for this too. There's some intakes with threaded in ports just over these cyl head rear coolant ports so you can run water lines back to the t-stat housing. Some come with bosses you must drill and tap to do this. Some don't have the option at all. Here's one intake with the drilled/tapped bosses (from the manufacturer) for rear water outlet. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...L._SL1500_.jpg And another: http://www.skspeed.com/images-dyn/Pr...mb/E117501.jpg |
I prefer the ultra seal's from Mr Gasket...

Anybody use these gaskets from Flat Out gaskets yet ?
It's about time someone makes modern type gaskets for the SBC and BBC ! Full PDF catalog for all their stuff: https://www.flatoutgroup.com/docs/20...alog-Cover.pdf https://www.flatoutgroup.com/PartsImg/8161feature.gif |
