Big Chief
Question for the gods... will Big Chief headers fit a conventional 24 degree BBC head?? I've been told different stories from different people... I was of the opinion that the exhaust flange was slightly different

If you want the angel let me know and ill check mine. |
The ones I have been around have a standard bbc pattern. It is quite a bit higher obviously, and I think at a slightly different angle.
Posted at the same time. Thanks for confirming the angle
I cam across some stelling headers a few years back. they were stamped ''Pontiac" on the flange. No go for me. If I recall, yes, it was the angle that was different at the flange.
Thanks Haxby, Apache and MT... it was the bolt pattern that concerned me... got stuck with a set of CMI's once that were supposed to be for BBC and they wouldn't bolt up, these would be for my cat.. and I'm using a fixed Y pipe for tail and need to be sure...

Just curious, are they Big Tubes
Think the header will tilt towards each other around 2" on each side.
yes steroid tubes GPM and this would be ok being narrower, Apache, I can always run a spacer to make them wider if so needed, but won't work the other way around...
The 2.375 I ran wouldn't seal around standard exhaust ports.
Yes also one of my concerns.. just waiting for vendor to verify.. thanks for the input guys

I ran them on the Big Dukes without a problem, but on the BB2xtra they wouldn't seal, they may work on other brands I don't know.

Quote from Dart:
Exhaust Port Dim: (As cast) 1.720"w x 1.680"h, (F/P) 2.100"w x 1.800"h Exh Port Location: Raised .900" Std chevy bolt pattern Exhaust Gasket: Mr Gasket 5914 It's - that post - a good reminder, that all exhaust ports must be checked with anyone's headersmanifolds that the port / header opening's match. I've run into these issues with standard stuff. 23* SBC even. This is the way I've used to check both. Works pretty slick and a little more accurate than using a gasket to check. http://youtu.be/ijlPwA7W29M |
